Studied two and-a-half years in Japan and Korea. Publications: Program essays for EWC performances, including Japanese koto, Maori music, Hawaiian falsetto singing, American Bluegrass music, Japanese Nagauta music, American Zydeco music, Mexican Mariachi music, American Blues tradition, and the Harpsichord.
Studied internationally with master artists from India, Burma, Indonesia, and Japan. Previouly worked as folk arts coordinator for the Hawaii State Foundation for Culture and the Arts and as folklorist for the National Organization for Traditional Artist Exchange. Produced radio and video documentaries about diverse Asian and Pacific art forms, wrote essays, articles and educational materials about the arts of Asia and the Pacific, and curated exhibitons and performances of traditional arts. A founding member of the Train Theater in Jerusalem performed and designed productions that toured internationally. Awarded: Fulbight, EWC, and Asian Cultural Council grants.Served on panels for the NEA and the Western State Arts Federation and currently serves on the advisory panel for community outreach at Sangri La, owned by the Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Art.
